This Is What’s Wrong With American Youth Soccer

by Clive Longbottom-Fellow, Esq.

Ultimagoal

If one picture could capture what is wrong with youth development in the United States, this is it.  Ultimagoal!  Your one stop shop for replacing people, the one thing necessary to develop a competent soccer player.  There are several obvious problems with this thing.

First, soccer is a game you play with people, not mesh panels.

No Steven Gerrrrrahd: Man U -Liverpool Live Play-by-Play

by Clive Longbottom-Fellow, Esq.

Steven Gerrard

Pregame — No Stevie G.  Rooney healthy.  Just refresh you page every now and again to keep up with the match commentary.

Balls on the field.  We knew that one was coming. Poor Pepe.

Football for Change – Grassroot Soccer

by Clive Longbottom-Fellow, Esq.

Grassroot Soccer

Every week in Football for Change, Nutmeg Radio will highlight the work being done by organizations across the globe using soccer to promote development.  This week we focus on Grassroot Soccer (GRS), a charitable organization that uses soccer as a tool to fight HIV and AIDS in Africa.  GRS targets and trains African soccer stars, coaches, teachers, and peer educators in a specialized curriculum to deliver an interactive HIV prevention and life skills curriculum to youth.  To date, GRS has educated over 270,000 kids and has no plans to stop.

Management Under Fire (Counterpoint)

by Clive Longbottom-Fellow, Esq.

Kool Aid Man Spill

My counterpoint to G.B.’s Management Under Fire post may not be as eloquent as the original post, but eloquence isn’t always my thing.  The thing is, unfortunately, coaches get blamed for everything and get fired after poor runs. But players are often allowed to suck regardless of the fact that they are megastars on fat salaries who are allowed to get drunk and do the robot on Sunday nights while hanging out of the sunroof of a moving vehicle.  It’s not just Rafa.  And it’s not just the coaches … although some of them are hot garbage.  The players need to be blamed as well.

by Clive Longbottom-Fellow, Esq.

Didier Drogba2

Ok.  Perms don’t heal, but Didier Drogba does.

Cotê d’Ivoire, bordering World Cup finalist Ghana, was long considered an example of African success. Yet, like many other countries on the continent, Cotê d’Ivoire, once a paragon of stability in Africa, tumbled into political and military turmoil. (more…)
