Sepp Blatter hates your football. FIFA’s champion recently called for a reduction in the size of domestic football to raise the standard of international football. You know, the international football that’s on every weekend. Sepp Blatter wants to sacrifice that which we regularly watch for games that happen once every time a moon orbits around Jupiter. He thinks that the standard of international (more…)

Paradoo Wins the Right to Host 2018 World Cup

by Clive Longbottom-Fellow, Esq.

Paradoo Map

Not even Fox News can spin Paradoo’s challenging history of conflict, closed markets, government intervention, and social strife.

But that Paradoo of old has evaporated. The new Paradoo has liberalized its markets and embraced economic mobility. Paradoo is now a country reveling in many of its new found freedoms. It is now a place where everyone can feel comfortable. That is, everyone except white people.

In a recent survey of white residents of Paradoo City, Paradoo’s not-very-cosmopolitan capital, 60% of respondents said that they had been physically assaulted, while 80% of white residents claimed to have been victims of verbal racial abuse.

Even if these numbers are halved, it’s hard to deny that a problem exists. Half of 60 and 80% is still a whole lot of physical and verbal abuse. (more…)

Don’t you love the English Premier League? The transfer window has opened and apparently Blackburn Rovers’ owners “have attempted to sign [David] Beckham on loan from LA Angeles Galaxy,” and have offered Ronaldinho “the chance to join ambitious Rovers.” That’s not a typo, by the way. LA Angeles Galaxy. That’s a direct quote. (more…)

Well, anyway, thanks for checking in with us again. It should be an exciting year over here at Nutmeg Radio. (more…)

U.S. Soccer Goal Celebration Inspiration: Hammer Dance

by Clive Longbottom-Fellow, Esq.

MC Hammer

Building off of our last post on next steps for U.S. soccer goal celebration dances, there’s probably no better place to start than with Stanley Burrell, a man better known to the world as MC Hammer.

To be honest, I wouldn’t mind seeing Clint Dempsey break out in a Hammer shuffle next time he scores in international play. Hammer might not have the standing he used to have, but it certainly would be hilarious. If these folks can do it, I see no reason why Deuce can’t hurt ‘em. (more…)

Merry Holidays, everyone! Christmas, I mean December 25, always signifies the beginning of the end of the year. People start compiling lists of the greatest [fill in the blanks] of the year, wishing everyone all sorts of well wishes and cheer that aren’t wished for the remainder of the year, and the lucky take some time off to fill bellies and recharge batteries in the company of loved ones. The Asamoah Gyan Dance: Origins Revealed

by Clive Longbottom-Fellow, Esq.

Asamoah Gyan Music

It’s possible that Asamoah Gyan’s stellar performances in his first Premier League season have been overshadowed by Bolo Zenden’s equally impressive old man dancing. But all of you can rest assured that Bolo won’t be stealing Gyan’s spotlight forever. Why? Because Gyan is just too talented.

In the African game, success on the field inevitably intersects with the music industry. Benni McCarthy, Didier Drogba, Emmanuel Eboue and others know that when you make it big, you have to be in a music video. Gyan, under his stage name, Baby Jet, now has the video under his belt, which I believe automatically puts you in the running for African Player of the Year. (more…)

The group stages of the UEFA Champions League have come to a close. No more lovely Champions League music until 2011 unless you recorded matches or have the internet. If you’re reading this, I’ll assume you have the internet unless you subscribe to Nutmeg Radio in hard copy. Anyway, this pending hiatus from the Champions League encouraged me to do some deep thinking (more…)
