Hands in everything, that David Beckham.

David Beckham, who you might remember from Manchester United, underwear, Real Madrid, adidas Predator commercials, Posh Spice, underwear, the LA Galaxy, Landon Donovan beef, The Beckham Experiment by Grant Wahl, cologne, tattoos, underwear, England’s 2018 World Cup bid, AC Milan, a close friendship with Gary Neville, various hairstyles, underwear, and, of course, the film Bend It Like Beckham (although he was never in it), is getting ready to give you something else to remember him by, in 1800 stores in 40 different countries.

Damn, son, is right.

Beckham will be launching a clothing line with H&M in February 2012. Are there any items to see? Nope. Not yet. But we do know that his new “bodywear” line (whatever that is) will include underwear. Of course, it will.

Bodywear? Where else would you wear anything other than on your body? Whatever happened to clothes? I digress.

Anyway, the man is an empire. He can call it goatwear if he so chooses.

Right, I almost forgot. Beckham’s bodywear line will be launching with H&M to coincide with Valentine’s Day. That’s a good call. I’m sure men around the world will be looking forward to getting their hands on Beckham’s bodywear in time for Valentine’s Day 2012. Um … yeah.

Nutmeg Radio’s Cool Station: Bumpy Pitch Returns w/ the V-Neck

Nutmeg Radio’s Cool Station: Teal Bunbury BOON-BOO-REE Tees

By now we’re probably all familiar with the Pablo Ramirez BOON-BOO-REE call of Teal Bunbury’s goal against Chile. If you happened to miss it, you can catch up here.

A few minutes after the goal, we tweeted the following:

“I like the BOON-BOO-REE. I like the BOON-BOO-REE!” — Instant classic. Tell your kids about that one. Matter of fact, that’s a t-shirt.”

Well, ladies and gentlemen, now it is a t-shirt.

New Nike Brazil Jersey Not as Bad as the Sierra Leone Jersey

This Hummel Sierra Leone jersey is … well, self-explanatory. Actually, it reminds me of a story a friend told me when he recently returned from Spain.

During my friend’s visit to the home of the world champions, he accompanied his girlfriend to visit her uncle and aunt who live just outside of Barcelona. My friend’s Spanish is virtually non-existent and the uncle and aunt barely speak English. It was one of those situations. After a few naturally awkward moments, the aunt, realizing the limitations of group conversation, decided to put in a video. She sifted through a voluminous collection of videos and eventually selected a silent documentary of African wildlife complete with lions, giraffe, hippos, and the rest of the animals in found in the animated film Madagascar. Being African, my friend found the episode slightly uncomfortable but hilarious nonetheless.

The Hummel Sierra Leone jersey makes me think of what his girlfriend’s aunt might design if asked to design a soccer jersey for Africans.

While I understand trying to use local culture to inspire clothing, the lion is a tired, overused illustration of Africanness that really doesn’t need to be displayed on everything African. And in this particular instance, Sierra Leone isn’t even particularly well-known for its lions, [EDIT: unless you want to count the fact that the country is named after a lion].

And another thing. The jersey is ugly as sin. That has to be the biggest gripe. Kei Kamara deserves better.

With the Sierra Leone jersey in mind, let’s turn to Nike’s new Brazil jersey, which isn’t my cup of tea, but certainly isn’t a tragedy of Sierra Leonean proportions. How’s that for a glowing recommendation?

Nutmeg Radio’s Cool Station: Who Are Ya Designs’ MAN UTD Shirt

If I liked Manchester United, I would definitely get this shirt. But I don’t.

For all you Manchester United fans, don’t let that stop you though. We may not support the same team, but I can appreciate a cool shirt when I see one. That’s why this Run-DMC-style MAN UTD shirt from Who Are Ya Designs gets some love on Nutmeg Radio’s Station Cool.

This simple design will always hold a special place in my heart because I once owned the original Run-DMC shirt when I was a little person. I am relatively grown, but it’s still cool. It’s hard not to appreciate it’s simplicity and the design’s ability to stand the test of time.

Before you head over to Who Are Ya Designs, check out Run-DMC performing Sucker MCs. Pay close attention to the crowd. There’s a lot of awkward comedy for those who are into that. I wonder what the folks in the crowd are up in 2010.

Nutmeg Radio’s Cool Station: Air Diego Tees

Here we are, face to face, a couple of silver spoons. Think about that.

Anyway, if you begin checking back in these parts more frequently, we’ll begin sharing some of our favorite things with you. Lots of it will be apparel, probably a few websites, people, places, things, and who knows, maybe even a few animals. If we get into animals, I can tell you in advance that it will have something to do with a chimpanzee. We can all agree that chimps are the coolest and most useful animals ever. Not to mention, incredibly dexterous (not related to the Showtime series).

Anyway, first up on Station Cool is a sumptuous “Air Diego” shirt designed by David Cumming. If the shirt needs explanation, you probably won’t want to buy it. Nevertheless, I’ll give a basic rundown of why it’s cool.

Diego Maradona decieved the officials in a 1986 World Cup match against England. He was sly or an absolute cheat depending on who you ask, but few can argue that his moment of deception didn’t work. Maradona went up for a header and punched the ball into the goal. Really, that’s it. Maradona’s punch is now referred to as the Hand of God, not to be confused with a motif in Jewish and Christian art, a pre-Christian Vandel or Slavic symbol representing the Supreme God and the Universe, an autobiographical book by Bernanrd Nathanson, an episode of Battlestar Galactica, or a song by Randy Stonehill (thanks, Wikipedia).

Where was I? Ah, right. Argentina won the match and the World Cup that year.

“Air Diego” plays off of the Nike Air Jordan line, named after Michael Jordan, a basketball player known for jumping high, but also gambling, being a poor baseball player, and generally over-competitive in just about every activity known to man.

Hopefully, now you get why this shirt is both funny and cool.

Pablo Aurrecochea, Baddest Goalkeeper in the World, Plays Dress Up During Match … Again

Uruguayan goalkeeper Pablo Aurrecochea is a certifiable, bad mother shut-yo-mouth. Last night, Aurrecochea, who plays for Club Guarani of Paraguay, faced off against Argentina’s River Plate in the Copa Sudamericana in this fly Superman goalkeeper jersey. If that doesn’t intimidate the opposition, I don’t know what will. I mean, nothing gets by Superman, right?

Sadly for Aurrecochea, the ball was like kryptonite last night and he wanted nothing to do with it as River Plate put four goals past the Uruguayan on the way to a 4-2 win. Maybe he should have worn his Batman jersey, or his Krusty the Clown jersey, or his Pink Panther jersey, or his Spiderman jersey.

Seriously.
