Um, you should probably read this, especially if you have any interest in US Soccer or Major League Soccer. Basically, former USMNT player and Fox Soccer analyst Eric Wynalda gets all out of character and speaks his mind and pulls his punches at the recent NSCAA Convention in a lecture cleverly titled “Why Not US.” Go ahead. Don’t be embarrassed. As you’ll soon see, he isn’t.

The MLS playoffs are just around the corner. And if you like playoffs, these are playoffs, with teams playing each other and everything. Some people like them because of reasons you can find on the Google. Others, like Empire of Soccer’s Mike Vallo, have an issue. Vallo even suggests his own team should be doing an apology lap instead of a victory lap for squeaking into the aforementioned playoffs.

L.E. Eisenmenger recently hooked up with new U.S. Men’s National Team fitness and strength coach Darcy Norman to discuss her past work with new coach Jurgen Klinsmann and her new role with the U.S. team. It’s an interesting read that sheds some light on Klinsmann, her training philosophy, chicken, and, of course, skiing and helicopters.

Uh oh. “Are Americans Coming Around to Soccer?” Greg Lindsay in, um, Fast Company poses this question to readers. An article about soccer in Fast Company? That’s a good thing, right? Right? Diversified outlets and more eyes ultimately equals a better product on the field, right? Will the diehards have the patience to educate the uninitiated? It is coming, people. It is coming.

Strange things happen all the time. So it shouldn’t be surprising that Fulham chairman Mohammad Al Fayed commissioned a statue of Michael Jackson outside of Craven Cottage, the club’s home ground. Certainly there is no better place to erect a statue of the King of Pop than outside of a football stadium. Travesty? Perhaps. Okay, travesty.

Unsurprisingly, many Fulham supporters are not pleased. Al Fayed’s response? Go support Chelsea.

The United States (all of them, collectively) will be taking on Argentina tomorrow (Saturday, March 26) at 7pm at the New Meadowlands Stadium in New Jersey. Yep, that Argentina. Tickets are still available for purchase through ussoccer.com. It’s not too late. But if you can’t attend, at least you’ll be able to attend on ESPN2 and Univision. [Insert new Nike motto all over.]

Yesterday, Chad Ochocinco dropped the news that he will be training/have a tryout with the Sporting KC. It’s well known that Ochocinco is a soccer fan and he often tweets about how he could do a job for a major team. This story inspired Reuters to contemplate what other American football players might make an impact in MLS. Here are their ridiculous thoughts.

“FIFA has opened disciplinary proceedings against six match officials in relation to the international A friendly matches Bolivia-Latvia and Estonia-Bulgaria played in Antalya (Turkey) on February 9 2011.” That’s always good news. Seven goals, two games, all penalties. Something doesn’t smell right, and if there’s any entity capable of recognizing the smell of stench, it’s FIFA. Hi-five, FIFA!

The Vancouver Southsiders. Who knew Vancouver had a Southside. I thought they only had North, East and Westsides. Shows how little I know. But that just means that it’s time for education. And for that, I suggest you jog on over to our ex-buddies (hehe) at The Free Beer Movement to learn about Vancouver’s Southsiders, the supporters group for the brand new (in MLS, at least), shiny Vancouver Whitecaps.

You may have seen that Jay DeMerit (of Merit in French) is a new captain. My first thought was that DeMerit must have been appointed captain of a new cruise ship. Something like the Love Boat. Turns out that’s not the case. Apparently, DeMerit has just been appointed captain of the brand new (to MLS at least) Vancouver Whitecaps. Good for him. I still hope he wears an eye patch.
