Daily Banter – 11.14.2009

New Zealand Football check

And we have another member in the field of 32.  Why I stayed up to watch this, I don’t know.  I hope that it doesn’t impact my ability to focus tonight for the Pacquiao – Cotto fight.  It was a solid match, but it was the story of two teams fighting for their respective nations’ first trip to the World Cup that made it exciting.

The All Whites qualify in Wellington for the first time ever.  All-Blacks, who?  Hehe.  Not so fast.  But congrats New Zealand.  Do neutrals (most people) care?

Ummm, No! And on to more interesting unbelievable (some would say dubious results), Nigeria pulls off the improbable escape. Nigeria losing 1-o to Kenya, pull off a 3-2 win, while Tunisia (the team at the top of their group) go down to mighty Mozambique late in their game. Outcome, Nigeria leap frogs Tunisia to win their group and automatically qualify for the games. Interesting outcome since Nigeria is (was for some) considered one of the soccer powers of Africa and they are the continent’s most populous nation.

New Zealand have taken over rugby…. now they are getting into football as well! I wonder what their national team is called?
