Poor Ireland. Who saw that finish to the second leg of France – Ireland? The Hand of Henry takes France to South Africa. This will inevitably raise all sorts of video replay talk, but this sort of thing happens all the time. It’s part of the game.
Maybe if I had a vested interest in the game, I’d think differently, but as a neutral, you can’t go back and legislate everything. I’m disappointed that it came down to a missed call, but how do you think these incidents should be handled?
Always been a fan of Henry. But he know what he was doing. We can’t put the blame solely on him, poor no call by the officials. I’d be more embarrass for FIFA than anyone else for letting this happen on that level of play. Video technology needs to be brought into play ASAP….
Henry has been such a stand out player in his career it’s a shame that this will stay with him.
True. But it’s because of the moment, no? I’ve seen Raul score an intentional hand ball against Leeds in the Champions League (ha! hilarious just to write Leeds and Champions League in the same sentence). Messi has done the same. And that’s just a few. They all do it to try to make something out of nothing. Not condoning it, but it’s unfair to vilify Henry for something that so many players do.
Exactly. But the real losers of this are the South African pubs. They are gonna be sickened there is nobody to drink properly down there. Auld Pierre will be getting his wine and water, but it wont be the same….
But to your point…they all do it. Raul, Messi et al….even Maradona done it and many other players done it before him. It happens when there is a lot at stake ! It’s unfortunate and it’s unfair, but when there’s so much at stake you can’t expect someone in Henry’s position to gamble a place at the World Cup through an unprompted display of moral righteousness.
That is why FIFA have to understand that and simply do that right thing by bringing in video technology…..
