FIFA 11 Takes it to the Streets

by Clive Longbottom-Fellow, Esq.

FIFA 11

Video games have become more and more realistic over the years. While I maintain that Frogger, Pac-Man, Techmo Bowl, Contra, Mike Tyson’s Punch Out, Street Fighter and NBA Jams are still much cooler than what’s now on the market, I also recognize that my position makes me seem more and more senile to kids these days. But I’ll always support imagination over better graphics. Always. But that’s just me.

For the graphically-inclined soccer fans, there’s always the latest iteration of FIFA Soccer. The FIFA Soccer video game has advanced so much since the early versions that every year, it’s hard to envision how the game can become more realistic. But as usual, EA Sports finds a way. This time, FIFA let’s you take it to the streets.

In FIFA 11, players will be able to choose between your standard match, played in a stadium, and street football mode, which will allow you to take your favorite players to neighborhoods around the world for 5 v 5 games. You will be able to play in the streets of England, France and Brazil in addition to a host of other cities. You’ll also be able to enjoy your favorite players rocking the latest street gear, which I suppose means we will be able to play English players in athletic shoes and dress socks. You know, to be authentic.

So mark October 4 on your calendar for the launch of FIFA 11 on Nintendo Wii, Xbox 360, PS3 and PC. In the meantime, back to  Mike Tyson’s Punch Out.

Oh, and yes, that’s Titus Bramble and Jimmy Bullard in the background. If you must ask if that’s the real cover, don’t.
