Um, you should probably read this, especially if you have any interest in US Soccer or Major League Soccer. Basically, former USMNT player and Fox Soccer analyst Eric Wynalda gets all out of character and speaks his mind and pulls his punches at the recent NSCAA Convention in a lecture cleverly titled “Why Not US.” Go ahead. Don’t be embarrassed. As you’ll soon see, he isn’t.

Bergkamp Bags and Double-Entendre Scarves: Nutmeg Radio’s Q & A With Football Designer Stephen Wong

by Clive Longbottom-Fellow, Esq.

Wong Wong2

The U.S. soccer landscape is changing.  A new level of sophistication is on the horizon in the U.S. soccer fashion market.  We recently wrote a piece about Toronto F.C.’s collaboration with famed designer Dirk Bikkembergs.  Well, we may have our own Dirk right here in New York City (a small town on the outskirts of Harrison, NJ).  Stephen Wong is the Founder and Creative Director of WONG WONG, a design collective inspired by football and fashion.  For us, soccer is so many things: style, fashion, versatility and humor. WONG WONG beautifully captures these elements in its original designs. Continue Reading »

FA Needs To Uphold The Concept of “Fair Play”

by The Chairman

FA

What would you do if I told your kids that it is okay to act out, as long as they don’t get caught?   Aside from killing my chances of winning the Role Model of the Year Award, I’m sure I’d be persona non grata at the next family dinner.  Well, that is exactly what the Football Association (FA) is inadvertently telling kids with their inconsistent treatment of players who commit violent acts on the football pitch.   Continue Reading »

A Typical Saturday: Relationship Destruction and Emasculating the English

by Clive Longbottom-Fellow, Esq.

USA v England

Being a soccer fan in the United States is a recipe for relationship destruction.  Focusing on just European football is manageable.  If you just like watching MLS, that’s also workable.  But let’s just assume that you’re a greedy bastard like me.  You want it all.  Well that’s just a logistical nightmare.  It’s like inviting a close friend to live with you and your significant other.  Anyone who partakes in cohabitation knows that additional long-term roommates are out of the question unless you are consciously trying to sabotage your relationship.  Let me explain how we do it on this side of the pond. Would You Rather Have Commemorative Shoes or Speedos?

by Clive Longbottom-Fellow, Esq.

Barcelona Nike Blazer Hi

Shoes please.

Looks like Nike might have to go ahead and re-release these again this year.  Last year, Nike released these Nike Blazers to commemorate Barcelona’s Champions League victory over Manchester United.  Word has it that had United beaten Barcelona at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome, Nike was going to release some special edition Speedo-like briefs called the Cristianitos, which sounds a bit blasphemous to me.  I’d get more use out of the hi tops.
