Nutmeg Radio’s Cool Station: Who Are Ya Designs’ MAN UTD Shirt

by Clive Longbottom-Fellow, Esq.

Manchester United RUN DMC

If I liked Manchester United, I would definitely get this shirt. But I don’t.

For all you Manchester United fans, don’t let that stop you though. We may not support the same team, but I can appreciate a cool shirt when I see one. That’s why this Run-DMC-style MAN UTD shirt from Who Are Ya Designs gets some love on Nutmeg Radio’s Station Cool. (more…)

Nutmeg Radio’s Cool Station: Air Diego Tees

by Clive Longbottom-Fellow, Esq.

Air Diego

Here we are, face to face, a couple of silver spoons. Think about that.

Anyway, if you begin checking back in these parts more frequently, we’ll begin sharing some of our favorite things with you. Lots of it will be apparel, probably a few websites, people, places, things, and who knows, maybe even a few animals. If we get into animals, I can tell you in advance that it will have something to do with a chimpanzee. We can all agree that chimps are the coolest and most useful animals ever. Not to mention, incredibly dexterous (not related to the Showtime series).

Anyway, first up on Station Cool is a sumptuous “Air Diego” shirt designed by David Cumming. If the shirt needs explanation, you probably won’t want to buy it. Nevertheless, I’ll give a basic rundown of why it’s cool. (more…)

Daily Banter – 4.30.2010

by Clive Longbottom-Fellow, Esq.

Yep. The U.S. National Team kit has arrived.  Or as some might like to think of it, the mirror image of the Peruvian National Team  kit.  There’s already plenty of commentary out there on the kit.  Bob Bradley likes it, although I’m not sure I get the point of having the national team coach comment on the jersey as if he could realistically say, “Wow, that’s a train wreck.”  (more…)

Nike’s Netherlands Jacket – Supplementing Your World Cup Wardrobe

by Clive Longbottom-Fellow, Esq.

Netherlands Jacket

If you happen to root for another team outside of the U.S., the Netherlands wouldn’t be a bad choice.  They’ve got some decent players, and their color combinations are, well, better than most.  If you think about it, style has long been a part of Dutch football.  Cruyff,  total football, Gullit’s flowing locks, Edgar David’s goggles — all stylish and iconic images that we associate with Dutch football. HUBLOT - Big Bang Maradona

Football great Diego Maradona has been named the latest football ambassador for luxury watchmaker Hublot Genéve. World Cup Jackets For Your Dogs If You Decide To Let Your Dogs Out

by Clive Longbottom-Fellow, Esq.

Dog Jackets

Who does your dog support?  This isn’t a Randy Jackson reference.  I don’t do American Idol references.  Soft rock references, yes.  But never American Idol.  Anyway, I’m literally talking about World Cup jackets for your dog, the animal. (more…)

Bergkamp Bags and Double-Entendre Scarves: Nutmeg Radio’s Q & A With Football Designer Stephen Wong

by Clive Longbottom-Fellow, Esq.

Wong Wong2

The U.S. soccer landscape is changing.  A new level of sophistication is on the horizon in the U.S. soccer fashion market.  We recently wrote a piece about Toronto F.C.’s collaboration with famed designer Dirk Bikkembergs.  Well, we may have our own Dirk right here in New York City (a small town on the outskirts of Harrison, NJ).  Stephen Wong is the Founder and Creative Director of WONG WONG, a design collective inspired by football and fashion.  For us, soccer is so many things: style, fashion, versatility and humor. WONG WONG beautifully captures these elements in its original designs. (more…)

Would You Rather Have Commemorative Shoes or Speedos?

by Clive Longbottom-Fellow, Esq.

Barcelona Nike Blazer Hi

Shoes please.

Looks like Nike might have to go ahead and re-release these again this year.  Last year, Nike released these Nike Blazers to commemorate Barcelona’s Champions League victory over Manchester United.  Word has it that had United beaten Barcelona at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome, Nike was going to release some special edition Speedo-like briefs called the Cristianitos, which sounds a bit blasphemous to me.  I’d get more use out of the hi tops. Some Puma Trainers for the Fashionably Inclined

by Clive Longbottom-Fellow, Esq.

Puma Mesh Trainers

If you are cool and like soccer, you’ll think these are great looking casual shoes.  If you disagree, well, I wish you the best in life.  These may not be the shoes for intense training, but they’re definitely a pair of shoes to wear to go watch other people train intensely.  I’ll concede that I’m not the coolest of people, so these might not be on my feet.  But looking cool is not my most marketable skill set.  I’m much better at telling you what’s cool.  These shoes? Cool. (more…)

We Love Truly Horrific Football Gear

by Clive Longbottom-Fellow, Esq.

Red Lion Sock

These socks are actually for sale.  Really.  Now I know what you’re thinking – can I get these in other colors?  Of course.  These beauties are available in ten other colors to match all of your outfits.  These would look fantastic with, say, the 1994 U.S. National Team jersey.  You remember that amazing ode to denim, don’t you?  (more…)
