Right.

There’s been some Nutmeg Radio-related stuff that’s done gone up elsewhere in recent times. Perhaps you’re not on the Twitter. Perhaps you just don’t care. And all that is fine. But, if you do, well, then I’m here for you.

Why We Should Ignore Arsene Wenger’s Presidential Slight of Hand

by Miriti Murungi

arsene-wenger-statue

“We’re invading. I’ve weighed the pros and cons and there is no perfect answer. We have to send a signal to our enemies – and they do exist – that their conduct will not be tolerated and that there will be retaliation. That signal has to be sent. We also have to make our best attempt to influence who ends up filling the power vacuum once we succeed in removing the threat. And we will succeed. There will be casualties on both sides, even if we attempt to minimize the damage, but that is a small price to pay when our national security is at stake. And no, this has nothing to do with oil or any other type of natural resource.”

- some fictional president

Some might say that Barack Obama’s job as President of the United States is to run the country effectively, not to tell you the truth. Sometimes effectively running a country and straight-shooting work well in tandem, but that isn’t always the case. That’s not an Obama thing; it’s a president thing. And as much as our leaders’ unwillingness to be straight-forward all the time pains significant portions of the public, leaders often need to employ the slight of hand to effectively and efficiently lead in a world of competing interests. Of course, this isn’t the only model of leadership, but history tells us that it sure is a popular one. (more…)

Grumpy Ol’ Harry Puts Foot In Mouth Prior To Arsenal Loss in Carling Cup

by The Chairman

Harry Redknapp

Perhaps next time Harry Rednapp decides to mouth-off before a big game, he will think twice.   Prior to the Arsenal v. Tottenham Carling Cup tie, Redknapp had a go at his Arsenal counterpart by saying that he wouldn’t follow Arsene Wenger’s example of relying on reserve team players in the competition. (more…)

“The greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing world  he didn’t exist.”  Hmm.  Interesting.  Thanks, Keyser.  What about you, Arsene?  “Well the greatest trick I ever pulled was convincing the world that my team could be mentioned in the same breath as Barcelona.”  Very manipulative, Arsene.  Arsene Wenger is the Keyser Söze of football, and I mean that as a compliment.

Baseball Tops Football in Global Review of Sports Salaries

According to the Annual Review of Global Sports Salaries 2010 by the Sporting Intelligence, the New York Yankees are the highest paid team in all of sport.  That’s surprising considering the global appeal of football around the globe.  Only four football teams (Real Madrid, Barcelona, Chelsea and Manchester United) were included in the top 30, with the first three clubs cracking the top ten.   (more…)

For The Love Of The Beautiful Game

by The Chairman

Henry - Fabregas

While watching the Barcelona – Arsenal game yesterday I realized how cruel love could be, even on a football pitch.  On one side you had Thierry Henry, a former Gunner, playing for Barcelona.  On the other side of the field you had Cesc Fabregas, a former Barcelona protégé, doing the same for Arsenal.  Both players ended their long-standing relationships with their favorite teams in order to advance their careers.  As can be expected, such difficult decisions often result in unintended consequences.  In their case, they were forced to play their old clubs. Arsenal vs. Barcelona: Nostalgia Distorting Reality

by Clive Longbottom-Fellow, Esq.

Barsenal

There’s a real competition going on to decide whether Wayne Rooney or Lionel Messi is the best player in the world.  That’s because both Rooney and Messi are consistently producing at a level considerably higher than their peers, especially when it matters.  However, at the club level, the argument over who plays the best football still inevitably ends up involving Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal and Pep Guardiola’s Barcelona.  But if consistent production when it matters is a prerequisite for being considered the best footballing side in the world, it’s odd that these two sides so frequently reside in the same sentence. All sports are the same.  Manager gets sacked; new manager gets hired.  Another manager gets sacked.  Manager recently sacked gets the position.  These same crusty individuals keep getting recycled in league after league.  The one great aspect to the Arsene Wenger signing was that there was a collective, “Who?” I like that.  I mean how great (more…)

A Sustainable Way Forward

by The Chairman

Arsenal Manager, Arsene Wenger

It is no secret that Arsenal Football Club (AFC) is run under a self-sustainable business model.  The club takes great pride in touting this fact, sometimes to the detriment of some of its own fans who want greater on field success in the form of silverware (AFC has gone five long, arduous years without a major trophy – cue the violin).  According to Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger, it is imperative that football teams live within their means, by which he means that clubs should only spend what they make.  That is why a few years ago, after the club decided to build Emirates Stadium, Arsene embarked on an odyssey of sorts  to revolutionize how the squad was constructed.
