The Tastiest Classico Review Ever

by Clive Longbottom-Fellow, Esq.

Classico Pasta Sauce

El Classico. Robust flavor. A delectable treat for the young and old.

I was asked my thoughts on the greatest Classico of all time. I immediately thought of the marinara with plum tomatoes and olive oil.

Each Classico has its own unique flavor, which makes picking a favorite an almost impossible task. In addition to the aforementioned marinara with plum tomatoes and olive oil, there is caramelized onion and roasted garlic, fire-roasted tomato and garlic, four cheese, tomato and basil, spicy red pepper, and a host of other red sauces. Each sauce has the ability to transform pasta into a special occasion. (more…)

Daily Banter – 7.27.2010

by Clive Longbottom-Fellow, Esq.

In June, Barcelona’s board of directors announced a 2009-2010 profit of 11 million euros. That’s not an overly impressive figure given the stature of the club. However, an audit led by new Barcelona president Sandro Rosell paints a more dire picture. This latest audit reveals a post-tax loss for 2009-2010 of 77.1 million euros. Barcelona’s situation is just the latest example (more…)

Apparently Spain wants everything. The European Championship, the World Cup trophy, the Champions League, your soul, better food, the Basque Country, dreadlocks, to host the World Cup in 2018, Cesc Fabregas, and apparently any Arsenal player who seems remotely talented. Granted, Fabregas is already Spanish, but his contract is not. (more…)

Ah, post-season banter.  Love it.  In today’s Telegrapgh, Alan Smith has a great article about Cesc Fabregas’ impending move to Barcelona.  According to Smith, Cesc stopped by Arsenal’s training ground to pick up his boots.  While there, he popped in for a meeting with Arsene Wenger. Smith then suggests that it’s safe to assume that Wenger didn’t (more…)

Barcelona vs. Sevilla is my game of choice for the weekend.  The match should combine well with some flank steaks, a simple mixed salad and a bottle  (or three) of Malbec.  A more complex meal will cloud the sophistication on the pitch.  The match has had a full season to properly age, and this weekend should be the right time to open.  Expect a delightful finish since it comes from the right pedigree.

Football Managers And Their Mind Games

Mind Games

The Classless One

Following Inter Milan’s 3-2 aggregate win over Barcelona in the Champions League semi-final at Camp Nou, Jose Mourinho said the following:

“This is the best loss of my life. It is a shame I couldn’t play: I would have been awful on the pitch but I would have shed blood as my players did”.

Judging by his classless romp around the football pitch, it is increasingly evident that Jose Mourinho suffers from an inferiority complex.  I fully understand that the Special One’s teams thrive off of an ‘Us against the World’ mentality, however after the battle has been waged and won, it is imperative that the victors not needlessly shame the losers.   (more…)

Someway, somehow, I get the feeling that ‘The Special One’ is behind the volcanic eruption in Iceland.  Surely the man Barcelona fans derided as ‘the translator’, a reference to his time working at the club under former manager Bobby Robson, will stop at nothing to exact revenge.  Due to the eruption, Barca has been given no choice but to travel 700 plus miles

Football Versus the Volcano

Professional football teams across Europe have been grounded and forced to rely on alternate means of transportation due to the volcanic eruption in Iceland.  Barcelona has been forced to travel by bus (yes, bus) in order to make it in time to play the first leg of their tie with Inter Milan in the Champions League.  Lyon may be forced to do the same for their tie with Bayern Munich if conditions don’t improve soon.  I can only imagine what is going through the players’ minds.   (more…)

Baseball Tops Football in Global Review of Sports Salaries

According to the Annual Review of Global Sports Salaries 2010 by the Sporting Intelligence, the New York Yankees are the highest paid team in all of sport.  That’s surprising considering the global appeal of football around the globe.  Only four football teams (Real Madrid, Barcelona, Chelsea and Manchester United) were included in the top 30, with the first three clubs cracking the top ten.   (more…)

For The Love Of The Beautiful Game

by The Chairman

Henry - Fabregas

While watching the Barcelona – Arsenal game yesterday I realized how cruel love could be, even on a football pitch.  On one side you had Thierry Henry, a former Gunner, playing for Barcelona.  On the other side of the field you had Cesc Fabregas, a former Barcelona protégé, doing the same for Arsenal.  Both players ended their long-standing relationships with their favorite teams in order to advance their careers.  As can be expected, such difficult decisions often result in unintended consequences.  In their case, they were forced to play their old clubs.
