Yesterday, Chad Ochocinco dropped the news that he will be training/have a tryout with the Sporting KC. It’s well known that Ochocinco is a soccer fan and he often tweets about how he could do a job for a major team. This story inspired Reuters to contemplate what other American football players might make an impact in MLS. Here are their ridiculous thoughts.

Chuck’s post on Ochopsycho raises a topic that many of us hypothesize about with some frequency — whether a top athlete in one sport would be able to compete at the highest level in another sport. But since that’s such an open question, let’s focus on Ocho’s comment as applied to making the transition from [...]

Chuck’s post on Ochopsycho raises a topic that many of us hypothesize about with some frequency — whether a top athlete in one sport would be able to compete at the highest level in another sport. But since that’s such an open question, let’s focus on Ocho’s comment as applied to making the transition from American football to real football.

Yes, we know you like football, Mr. Ocho Cinco. Yes, we know you’re a great athlete. Yes, we know you like to play soccer. And no, you couldn’t play for AC Milan. As a matter of fact, you’re not good enough to play on my pub team. And there goes the debate over NFL athletes being good enough to play real football. Amen. Why are people even having this conversation? If he said that he’s smart enough to be President would we start obsessing over the attributes that might translate from American football to presidential politics? I think not. Until I see a video of any of these amazing athletes doing something amazing in another sport, I’m never having this conversation again. You shouldn’t either. As a matter of fact, I may post some video evidence of supreme athletes from one sport sucking at another. At Steve Nash’s Showdown in Chinatown, we got a chance to see some of the NBA’s best talent showcase their soccer skills. Entertaining, no doubt. But AC Milan need not be looking over its shoulder just yet. Portsmouth, maybe.
