There needs to be a 24/7 Rafa Benitez channel.  All Rafa, all the time.

The minute Torres gets substituted, we look at each other and say, if (or rather when) Lyon equalize, they’re going after Rafa’s head because of this substitution.  Forget that it may have had nothing to do with the equalizer, but that’ll be a talking point.

St James' Park

Now this is perfection.  Rolls off the tongue, doesn’t it.  I’m looking forward to the day we get to see nutmegradio [dot] com [backslash] new stadium @ Exxon Mobil Refinery in the Delta Region Stadium.

You get the feeling that Newcastle wanted corporate sponsorship, but wanted to hold on to the history associated with St. James’ Park.

Newsflash: That’s @#^%@% stupid.

Bora Milutinovic

At the end of October, Carlos Alberto Parreira was once again appointed the head coach of Bafana Bafana after the Brazilian fled South Africa  in April 2008 for personal reasons.  I know that some believe that these mercenary coaches are necessary to raise the level of football in developing soccer nations, but I’m not sold.

First, other than a contractual tie to a country, there is often very little incentive for the mercenary coach to truly invest in their new country.  When problems arise, check-out can often occur quite quickly.

Second, these mercenaries often get ridiculously large pay packages, but rarely produce better results than their predecessors.

In short, there’s basically a huge financial upside to mercenary coaching and very little downside.  That’s a recipe for disaster.

What do you think, Bora Milutinovic, coach of EIGHT national teams?

Lisandro Lopez

This man could very well cause a world of problems for Liverpool this week.  Last time these two teams met, Lyon came from behind to win at Anfield.  This is not going to be an easy journey to the mainland by any stretch of the imagination.  What’s it going to take, Rafa?

Athletes who just don’t get it…

Dy-no-mite!

Hey look it's J.J Evans!

Why, unless he is crazy, does Emmanuel “Good Times” Adebayor feel the need to tell the world yet again that he was forced out of Arsenal and that he isn’t a money grubbing whore?  Has Ade lost the plot or what?  Come on Ade, man up before Wenger feels a need to take out a restraining order.  Why are some athletes so daft?

Yesterday’s Daily Banter took us From Real Madrid to Newcastle.  The banter started the ol’ rusty wheels turning and pondering relegation in football.  The concept of promotion and relegation in football is one of the greatest developments in sport since cavemen started throwing rocks at each other for trophies and endorsement deals.   What lessons can be learned from relegation?  Other than not sucking, of course.

In the first installment of Daily Banter … Real Madrid.

A 4-0 thrashing by Alcorón, a team in Spain’s Secunda División B.  With all the money that Real Madrid has spend this summer on the likes of Kaka, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Xabi Alonso, this result has to hurt.
