Nutmeg Radio’s Cool Station: Air Diego Tees

by Clive Longbottom-Fellow, Esq.

Air Diego

Here we are, face to face, a couple of silver spoons. Think about that.

Anyway, if you begin checking back in these parts more frequently, we’ll begin sharing some of our favorite things with you. Lots of it will be apparel, probably a few websites, people, places, things, and who knows, maybe even a few animals. If we get into animals, I can tell you in advance that it will have something to do with a chimpanzee. We can all agree that chimps are the coolest and most useful animals ever. Not to mention, incredibly dexterous (not related to the Showtime series).

Anyway, first up on Station Cool is a sumptuous “Air Diego” shirt designed by David Cumming. If the shirt needs explanation, you probably won’t want to buy it. Nevertheless, I’ll give a basic rundown of why it’s cool. (more…)

It won’t happen, but it should. Diego Maradona has been rumored to take over at Aston Villa following the departure of Martin O’Neill. Seemingly, the idea is more Maradona’s than Villa’s, but I still would like to take the rumor seriously simply because it offers one of those once in a lifetime entertainment opportunities. No one questions Maradona’s coaching pedigree. (more…)

Either Diego Maradona is a bad gambler or he was looking for a way out of the Argentina National Team setup.  Why else would the Golden Boy have forced the Argentina Football Association’s hand by insisting on not making any changes to his coaching staff?  Personally, I think the AFA was trying to take the easy way out by electing to change (more…)

Diego Maradona is reality television.  If he’s not being bitten by animals, he’s running over cameramen in his Mini Cooper.  Seriously. Leave it to Maradona to run over someone and then yell at them.  Whether scoring goals for Argentina, selecting suspect squads, being bitten, or driving over anyone who gets in his way, this man is a serious hub for entertainment.  If this coaching gig doesn’t pan out, (more…)

Roster overload!  Maradona’s selections?  Not surprising, it’s Maradona.  Sanity and conformity were never his things.  Raymond Domenech?  Also from the Maradona school of crazy, selecting seven midfielders and nine forwards. Like it or not, these characters will make June exciting.  Just take a deep breath, accept, and lets move on.

HUBLOT - Big Bang Maradona

Football great Diego Maradona has been named the latest football ambassador for luxury watchmaker Hublot Genéve. Hublot Genéve, known for Euro-centric football inspired timepieces such as the Red Devil Big Bang (I & II) and the Spain Euro Big Bang, has finally made its way out of Europe and into Latin America with the introduction of the Big Bang Maradona watch.

After Juan Roman Riquelme’s heroics in front of Diego Maradona at Boca’s legendary La Bombonera, Maradona might need to go smooth things over with the Argentine playmaker.  These two temperamental figures might hold the keys to Argentina’s success in South Africa.  Riquelme is famously retired from international football in large part due to his distaste for Maradona. But it’s time to beg, Diego. We all need Riquelme.

Football-Inspired Music & Maradona Singing a Tribute to Himself

by Clive Longbottom-Fellow, Esq.

Maradona and Manu Chao

So you’ve been asking around for new music?  Well these aren’t exactly new, but here are a few fantastic songs from South America that highlight the intersection of music and football.  First up — the great Manu Chao (I know he’s French).  The song is called La Vida Tombola, and as you can tell from the video, it’s about that lovable pudgy guy, Diego Maradona.  There’s some quality early footage of young Maradona.  Check it out after the jump.
