Diego Maradona’

Musings

On Tyson & Maradona

VENEZUELA SOCCER

A few things Mike Tyson and Diego Maradona have in common:

  • They were both tremendous athletes (arguably the greatest in the world at their respective peaks) who became awkwardly fat.
    • They both have those unique Ernesto ‘Che’ Guevara tattoos.  I may run out and get me one of them shirts before people catch on to this Che guy.
      • Given the Argentine FA’s track record, both are just as likely to be coaching Argentina at the 2010 World Cup.
        • Both used their hands to earn a living.

Greatness in One Thing Doesn’t Presume Greatness in Another, Diego

          Diego Maradona

Just because Michael Jordan was great at basketball, doesn’t mean he’s great at baseball.  Just because Arnold Schwarzenegger was a great (and we use that term loosely) actor, doesn’t mean he’s a good governator.  Just because Silvio Berlusconi is a great womanizer, doesn’t mean he can run a country or AC Milan for that matter.  And just because Maradona is one of football’s all-time greats, doesn’t mean he should be coaching Argentina.  We also suspect that he’d be a below average Argentine folk singer.

          by RMP

          Maradona

Who can remember the smoldering heat of Mexico City’s Azteca Stadium, Argentina were already a goal up against England (due to divine intervention according to Argentinean folklore)…. In a sequence of outright mind-blowing passage of play, Diego Armando Maradona at the halfway waltzed, tangoed, foxtrotted and rumbaed his way past almost the entire England team to score what has since been selected the greatest goal in the history of football. He may be considered as one of the most disreputable figures in English sporting history, but the talent clearly was there for all to see. His vision, skill, speed and above all his endurance was the stuff of legends. He was born to play the game…
