Adriano’s got issues again.  No one has ever questioned Adriano’s talent.  But his off the field issues have been following him for years now.  Adriano left Inter Milan to relieve his depression by moving back to Brazil to be closer to his friends.  Robinho recently left Manchester City under similar circumstances.  It makes you wonder whether the players were running from disciplinarians (more…)

Daily Banter – 3.3.2010

Robinho looked happy again yesterday on his return to England.  Clearly, unhappy players don’t play well.  But what is it exactly that makes Robinho happy?  Several things come to mind, but one thing stands out.  Robinho seems happiest when he is playing regularly and is an automatic selection.  Will that make his return to Europe more difficult if he wants to return to a top side?  Are there top sides willing to risk signing a temperamental Robinho?

In yesterday’s Daily Banter, we discussed Robinho’s departure from Manchester City back to his previous employer, Brazilian club Santos.  Robinho’s move to Santos reignited the tired debate about whether there is something in the South American water that prevents its players from coping in Europe. Daily Banter 2.9.2010

Robinho scores the winner on his Santos re-debut.  I made that word up, re-debut.  Although it’s too soon to say whether Robinho’s move back to Brazil was the right move, I’m going to go ahead and say that it was … for now.  In Europe, Robinho found a series of coaches who didn’t have patience for his antics.  He’ll find more patience at Santos, but the question is, is this move detrimental to his long-term professional development?  Probably.  Pampering won’t make Robinho a better player.
