World Cup Commercial From Coca Cola Inspires Alternative Uses For Coke

by Clive Longbottom-Fellow, Esq.

Roger Milla

Cameroonian legend Roger Milla’s goal celebrations were some of the most memorable moments of the 1990 World Cup in Italy.  The video below from Coca Cola celebrates the art of celebration.  There isn’t much that beats a proper celebration, especially if it’s your team celebrating, and especially if that celebrating is taking place at a World Cup. Check out the video complete with a Roger Milla cameo  …

While I think that Coke did a wonderful job with the video, if I was the creative genius behind this video, I definitely would have included more Coke products during the on-field goal celebrations. Think integrating goal scoring and Coke.  A player comes on in the 90th minute of a World Cup match with the score tied.  Right before entering the game, he chugs a Coke.  I would amplify the chugging sound because it always sounds so refreshing.  Then the player scores the game winning goal and runs to the corner where he gives thanks to a Coke can for the energy and inspiration. Maybe he even chugs another Coke.  The aesthetics just work.

Here’s another idea that goes beyond goal celebrations.  A player gets injured.  The trainer sprints on the field and rubs Coke on th einjury.  The injured player recovers miraculously and scores goal.  The player then celebrates with trainer who pours Coke on his head.

Last idea.  Replacing the Gatorade shower with a Coke shower after a victory.  Genius, I know.
